In Singapore, dentures are a common dental prosthetic option for individuals who have lost teeth due to aging, illness, or injury. They are custom-designed to replace missing teeth and can be easily removed and reinserted into the mouth. Dentures not only restore the appearance of a complete set of teeth, improving the person's smile and facial structure, but they also enhance the ability to chew and speak effectively. There are two primary types of dentures: complete dentures, which replace all teeth, and partial dentures, used when some natural teeth remain.

The process of obtaining dentures in Singapore usually involves several appointments over a period of a few weeks. Initially, impressions and measurements of the jaw are taken to create a model denture. The patient will try on this model multiple times so the dentist can evaluate the fit and make any necessary adjustments. Once the final denture is produced, it may require additional modifications after being worn for some time to ensure optimal comfort and functionality.

Dentures generally have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years. However, they may require adjustments or relining over time because of normal wear or changes in the gums and jawbone.

While dentures can restore function and aesthetics, they don't have the same strength and sensation as natural teeth, so they're not typically considered better, but a viable option for those with missing teeth.

MediSave is only allowed for dental treatment requiring surgery for medical reasons. This includes dental implants and wisdom tooth extraction. Dentures do not require surgery and are not claimable.

Yes, CHAS subsidies are available for dentures, with subsidy amounts from about $202.50 for Orange cardholders to $418.50 for Pioneer Generation cardholders from October 2025. Coverage applies separately to upper and lower dentures, with limits such as one subsidised set every three years. Partial dentures also have different subsidy tiers depending on complexity. As coverage differs by denture type and card tier, it is advisable to check with your dental clinic on the cost of treatment and eligibility for subsidies.

Generally, it's possible to wear dentures all day, but they should be removed at night to allow the gums and bone to rest, and to maintain proper oral hygiene.
